For more than thirty years, Gabriel Tarde (1843-1904) has regularly been rediscovered across diverse university disciplines (in particular, sociology, criminology and philosophy). This article critically examines this phenomenon. Its main focus is on the one hand and in a general manner, to follow the writing of the history of criminology at a founding moment in its history (the end of the nineteenth century), and on the other hand, more specifically, to contribute to determining Tarde’s place in the midst of this movement.
